The Venice port area was evacuated on Sunday morning as a World War II era bomb was diffused and set for explosion in the sea later.
As a part of the military operation headed by commander Gianluca Dello Monacco, the evacuation of nearly 3,500 residents was completed. Boat, train, bus and air traffic was halted during the operation.
The bomb weighed around 225 kg and contained nearly 129 kg of TNT was stripped of its fuses and was taken to a remote area in the sea on a ship.
The precautions were indispensable considering the high risk of explosion involved.
