China has recently reported 139 new cases of coronavirus that also includes a third death as the virus spreads its wings in the country to places beyond its origin. 136 new patients were diagnosed on Saturday and Sunday alone as per information provided by the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission.
The fresh numbers make the total strength of people diagnosed with the new coronavirus to 201 in comparison to 62 last week.
The spread of the outbreak comes at a time when the city is getting ready for “Chinese New Year” celebration next week. China expects more than 3 billion trips by visitors during this holiday season raising the concerns for a wider disease outbreak. As per 2019 records, nearly 7 million Chinese traveled overseas during the new year holiday period.
US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has started screening passengers arriving from Wuhan for the symptoms of the new virus at New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles airports.
In Wuhan, infrared thermometers have been installed at strategic locations such as airport, train stations, coach terminals and passenger piers to measure the temperature of passengers leaving the city. These measures were however started nearly 5 weeks after the onset of the outbreak hence leaving chances of many passengers departing the city without screening.
