The infamous Chinese Dog eating fest, popularly Known as Yulin dog festival, happens every year in Yulin city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China in summer. We are now exactly a week away from that horrible fiesta that no rational person in the world can support. As per the estimate, around 10,000–15,000 dogs are killed or burnt alive every year at Yulin before they find their way into the people’s plates.

More shocking is the participation of the common people in this cruelest blood-thirsty carnival leading to the brutal killing of so many dogs just to satiate the taste buds of some “sadistic” and “reckless” people. The festival runs for 10 days – lives of a thousand of dogs and puppies get destroyed in the cruelest manner. They are burnt alive and heated iron rods are inserted into their bodies.

Dogs are kept in iron cage for days without water and food in an unhygienic condition during their shipment to Yulin days ahead of the festival. These helpless creatures couldn’t even breathe properly at these wired cages. They feel suffocated and suffer from respiratory problems. But nobody is there to listen to their plight. Lots of dogs have already reached Yulin by now, and are counting their last few days on earth.

On reaching Yulin, these dogs are immediately sold to restaurants and private cooks. From health perspective, Dog meat has no nutritious value. They could badly affect the immune system of a human body. According to some local Yulin dog eaters, “dog meat tastes weird. Since it is a 400-year-old tradition, they don’t want to stop it.

Why Yulin Dog Eating Festival Is Inherently Wrong?

Though Chinese government neither approves nor disapproves the event, but Yulin Festival 2017 is bringing more shame to the nation. Last year, under immense pressure from the global animal rights organization, Yulin dog eating festival was eventually stopped.

Dog meat eating festival in Yulin is no delight. It leads to massive animal suffering, risking human health and tarnish the China’s global reputation as an animal-friendly nation. It breaches China’s food safety laws while promoting illegal killing and kidnapping of dogs roaming on the streets.

Barbaric, Savage, Cruelty and a heinous Crime! Nothing more could define this horrific Yulin festival. However, not all Chinese people support Yulin festival. It is only a handful of them who find pleasure by murdering dogs.

In one of its recent surveys, conducted by Chinese state-affiliated website, 3000 people participated on this online poll, and around 64% of the respondents urged for a complete ban on consuming dog meat in China while 24% of the people opposed the ban.

Shame on Being Human

A dog’s longevity is around 10% of humans. While humans can easily survive up to 80 or 90 in good health and still yearns to live more, an average dog’s life stays somewhere around 10 to 12. Yet people snatch away their lives abruptly in the veil of a tradition.

It was only in the last decade that mass killing of dogs began in such a horrible manner. Even Chinese government and Yulin state officials have separated themselves from the event citing it a festival observed by a very few businessmen and local people.

What these cruel people forget that a dog is a God’s creation. Taking their lives abruptly is indeed inhuman, unethical, cruel and immoral. How does human get the right to burn them alive and cook them? Who gave these criminal rights to them? Dogs never eat humans – they may bite which could be cured with antibiotics and vaccination. But once a dog is killed – a precious life is already lost. It can’t come back ever. It is shame to be a human as long as these cruelties to animals continue to prevail in the world.
