It’s a peculiar fact that when Booby Kennedy took up his job at the Department of Justice, the first thing he did was to decorate his office with drawings made by his children.

Children are today what we were yesterday, funny, free, careless, naïve and so on. Our lives have forced us to lose our innocence with excessive rationality. This rationality as Max Weber had said, is killing our emotions and making us merely machines of comfortability and prisoner of consciousness.

What’s worse is that sometimes we force our children to do what WE think is RIGHT. Children should be left to choose and do whatever they feel they should. If we really need to do something for them, then pushing them to pursue their dreams is what we must strive for. At the same time we must also restrain them from using excessive digital information, which will one day have a grievous impact on their lives.

Children must remain innocent of the world we have created. Their conscious must be kept away from ours, for we might spoil their childhood, as we know that it’s the only freedom they have from this so called ‘real’ world.

The Source of Fast Radio Bursts is Discovered

In a successful observation by the group of astronauts, the source of a Fast Radio Bursts (FRB) is found. The FRB as per its nomenclature releases cosmic radio waves to the universe. These spark for milliseconds in the dwarf galaxy located around three-billion light-years away from the planet earth.

Fast Radio Bursts created headlines in 2007 for the first time after a lot of research on the subject that began in 2001. Earlier, there were doubts about the origin of FRB with many scientists were confused whether these rays originated within the galaxy or outside it.

Until now, around 18 fast radio bursts have already been found. Last year, a team of astronomers from the US and Canada made an in-depth study into the subject for 6 months to find the source of FRB 121102 (latest code given to Fast Radio Outbursts).

According to the team of astronauts who conducted the study, it was a herculean task. They had to use the Very Large Array (VLA) radio telescope to get a precise location of FRB 121102 in the open universe.

Shriharsh Tendulkar of McGill University led the team in Hawaii when his team was searching the source of FRB 121102. They were unclear whether it was coming from a galaxy or a star, but later on, it was found that the source of FRB was similar to star – tiniest speck of light. In the words of Tendulkar, “it’s 100 million times fainter than the faintest object visible to the naked eye.”

What does the Fast Radio Bursts Research say?

The astronomers found that FRB 121102 was located in a dwarf galaxy with stars all around. Earlier, they believed that FRBs would be found in larger galaxies but the latest research proved them wrong. It is assumed that some billions of years ago, a series of fast bright bursts of radio waves entered into the open space, and since then it kept on radiating bright lights.

Initially, FRB 121102 travelled all across the universe and until scientist noticed them properly in 2007. In 2015, around 16 flashes were observed and then again in 2016, nine more appeared. Relentless research finally disclosed that FRBs originate from the minuscule galaxy amidst little heavenly bodies. Scientists have unraveled many things about universe in the past but for more information on FRBs – we have to wait more – until more and more details about the subject are being unearthed by scientists. The subject matter of Fast radio bursts is still shrouded in mystery.

Scientists’ Tryst with Fast Radio Bursts

It was an accidental discovery. Scientist Duncan Lorimer in 2007 was searching something related to Pulsars – when he noticed the FRB that flashed occasionally into the open space. But it was brighter than pulsars. This marked the start of the minute research into FRBs.

According to Shami Chatterjee, the researcher into the subject, “This is a good place to go fishing because you’re more likely to see a fast radio burst at this spot,” says Chatterjee.

More study will be done to dig out further details of FRBs. It will help scientists to know if a bunch of FRBs has similar characteristics and physical fundamentals. Then it will make clear that why and what inside a dwarf galaxy lead to repeating of fast radio bursts?

Australia Protests against Adani Coal Mining Project

The protestors of Melbourne and Townsville of Australia have called on the Australian government to invest in solar energy, rather than coal.

The debate has come to light after the Queensland Parliament passed the Environmental Protection (Underground Water Management) and other Legislation Amendment Bill, 2016. After the ratification of this amendment, a company, in this case Adani Mining Pty Ltd, will not go through public objection process once it has been scrutinized by the Environmental Impact Statement and the Land Court.

This, in Adani’s case means that since the Carmichael coal mine project has already gone through Land Court cases, their water license will not be appealable at the Land Court after this bill. The company can still be dragged for a judicial review, but not a subject of challenge in a Land Court that deals with environmental issues in the state of Queensland of Australia.

The mining project has become a controversy because the Carmichael mine is situated near the Great Artesian Basin. The basin is a major resource for agriculture. The mining project seeks to use 12.5 gigalitres of water each year from the Belyando river, one of the longest in Queensland.

The company on the other hand has advertised jobs and investment as means to legitimize the project even though the people have objected for it and propose to generate power through solar energy.

Adani’s company received state govt’s support since it granted the Carmichael project as “critical infrastructure” and “prescribed project” so as to fast track the process of its start. Giving “critical infrastructure” and “prescribed project” assertion removes strict legal actions against the company as it empower the firm with ministerial consent. It also undermines judicial scrutiny and lawfulness of the project.

Even after the economic support, Adani has failed to showcase the financial viability of this project. Neither the government is willing to put money, nor the banks. But the company points out that if the project was financially nonviable, they wouldn’t have put in about $3 billion already and about 100 million only on legal affairs.

It is understood that moon started as a giant ball of magma formed from the remains of an impact on earth estimated at four and a half billion years ago.

Scientists say that the hot material collected into a sphere and the magma began to cool and formed a crust on the surface of it.

About 4.3 billion years ago, shattered the moon’s South Pole forming the South Pole Aitken basin and sending debris farther from the opposite side of the moon.

This period marked by the impact caused major changes to the moon’s surface. Many such collisions happened on the moon forming large basins. The dark coloured patches of the moon are the evidences of those collisions. These patches are known as Mario.

Studies reveal that due to certain impacts, the basin created is several kilometers in depth and around 2500 km in diameter on the moon.

They began as normal craters but soon started changing because the magna inside the surface hadn’t yet cooled down.

The iron content of the base rock makes them reflect less light and thus the surrounding highlands of the moon appear darker.

The volcanic activity on Moon ended about 1 billion years ago. The moon keeps having multiple impacts from time to time.

As of today, the rate of impact of different craters on moon has slowed down drastically and thus the moon appears as it is to us.

Can Trump Prevent North Korea’s Crude Missile Test on US Land?

Amid brewing tension between the North Korea and the United States (US), a question has come to fore that can the Trump-led US prevent or go for a preemptive strike if North Korea launches its ICBM (Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles) to the mainland of the US? Well, nobody has a definite answer to it.

Recently, a North Korean official announced that the Kim Jong-Un is building up his nuclear arsenal and defense capability to thwart any attack coming from the American side. There is a clear-cut ideological difference between the capitalist-democratic US and the Communist North Korea, but both countries are tight-lipped about their defense strategy.

However, what could be clearly counted as a matter of provocation, a North Korean official has recently said that their ICBM could easily hit the US cities like Los Angeles or New York. Once the news reached the White House, incumbent president Donald Trump rebuked the claim saying it won’t happen. The undercurrent of the President’s message is clear; if North Korea dares so then the US has many alternative options to stop the same.

But North Korea is relentlessly improving its nuclear capability and American sources quoted that Kim Jung-Un government has launched a satellite into orbit a few months back named Unha rocket. It has a range of around 10,000 Km at one go. It could easily cover 13,000 kilometers to reach into the US mainland from North Korea.

Last year, North Korea launched KN-08 ballistic missile. North Korea revealed pictures of its newly launched missile engine which could launch a nuclear attack to the US. However, US State Department official stated that North Korean ICBM doesn’t have that the technology to fit a weapon atop it.

Options before the US to Subdue North Korea’s Nuclear Ambition

  • Launch a massive airstrike and sending bombers over North Korea to demolish missile launch pad. However, this strategy must be exercised as the last option.
  • Initiate proper diplomacy and engage in bilateral dialogues via Sweden to ensure that both nations won’t go for a war.
  • The US can keep NATO and its allies informed about the possible North Korea strike on the US – so that they can stay cautious.
  • Whenever ICBM is launched from North Korea, the US can stop it by using ground-based interceptor missiles. It has a reserve in Alaska, Vandenberg and other places.
  • The US is developing its anti-missile Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system to intercept any missile attack emanating from North Korea.
  • The US should launch a diplomatic campaign to isolate North Korea while taking other countries into confidence, must ask North Korean regime to shun its nuclear armament desires.

In recent times, North Korea-US relations have taken a backseat because of Kim Jong-Un’s continued testing of nuclear weapons. Then in the same year, US put North Korea’s head Kim Jong-Un on its list of sanctioned individuals which Pyongyang perceived as a direct threat of war by the US on North Korea.
